Decorating a Child's Bathroom

Executive summary about Bath Décor by Pamela Cole Harris

There are inexpensive ways to make a child's bathroom so cheerful they will actually want to take a bath and brush their teeth!
1. Neutrals. Start with neutral paint. You want a color that will grow with your child's changing interests and styles.
2. Adding accessories. Add color and personality with accessories and wall and window treatments that can be changed quickly and easily.
3. Shower curtain. Find a bright fabric to match your chosen color scheme and make your own shower curtain.
4. Accent. Pick one color from the fabric you chose to use as an accent wall color and paint one wall in this more vibrant color. Buy a small can of the color you choose and paint a large piece of cardboard.
5. Window treatments. For a customized look for your windows, try using a length of the same fabric you used for the shower curtain and adhere it, using fusible backing, to an inexpensive roller shade.
6. Knobs. Give new life to the bathroom with painted knobs in fun shapes. You can paint the knobs in stripes, flowers, checkerboards, squiggles, animals and any other shape your child can think of! Simply prime and let your child paint!
7. Towels. Remember to put a towel ring at the height your child can reach. Just make sure that the fabric is color-fast!
8. Bathmats. Choose bathmats that have a non-skid backing for your child's safety.
9. Steps. Don't keep hairdryers in the child's bathroom. Keep them behind locked child-proof doors.
